cook’s meme

The kiddo and I have some peanutbutter and jelly bars from one of Ina Garten’s cookbook baking. I thought I’d do this cooking meme. Anyone who knows me well knows that cooking is a huge part of my life. I kind of wonder about people who don’t like to cook…do they even like food? Or is it the demands on time that gets them? Oh well, I do enjoy feeding them.

I wish we lived closer so I could sample some of your recipes. The first time I realized what an awesome cook you are is when I visited you in MA and you made me broccoli cheese soup…I have yet to make or taste one as good as that. My favorite scents are onions sauteing too-apple pie baking and chai tea are close seconds. Comfort food-tomato rice soup…

you will, sweetie. can’t wait :>

geez…everyone, mom included, cites my broccoli soup. my broccoli cheese soup is made entirely different than way back then. but it’s still good.

the kiddo LOVES tomato rice soup. i must make it for her soon.

I would steal this and fill it myself, but I never really cook, what with being a bachelor and all. I usually cook for just myself, which typically means frozen convenience foods 3 nights a week or more, and mac-and-cheese (blue box type), hamburger helper, or sloppy joes on the rest. i do enhance things with my own ingredients, usually sweated onions and peppers, chopped up tomatoes, hot peppers, or the like, though.

You sound like someone I know. I can’t to this day do mac-and-cheese or hamburger helper. My mom pretty much raised us on that.

see, I grew up on that too, which is why I like it. For me, it’s comfort food that makes cooking for one easy, especially in my tiny kitchen with maybe a foot of counter-space for veggie-chopping and other prepwork. if I ever had a real kitchen and a bigger freezer, i might do more real cooking but as it stands, it doesn’t seem worth the hassle.

Sometimes I wonder if the real reason people raise kids, join into permanent partnerships, or the like is so they can justify having a big kitchen full of kitchenware to play with and make proper recipes. I think somewhere in everyone is a Domestic Instinct that must be sated from time to time with cooking and decorating. mine seems to be broken, though.
