the video wouldn’t play when I followed the link. it does raise questions, though: Since the grinding-up of cows for the making of ground beef is an acceptable thing to do (I’m not a vegetarian, i have no problem with the idea of cutting up animals for food), how horrible must they be treating these cows BEFORE that point for it to be considered mistreatment in comparison to being ground up?
The standard rule that determines the health of a cow for slaughter is that they can walk on their own. Those that cannot are called “downer” cows and this is taken as an indication of possible sickness that can contaminate the meat. The cows in this video were prodded with shocks, pushed with fork lifts, and forced to walk on broken legs. Upon further investigation, I found other videos that showed absolutely atrocious living conditions prior to slaughter that really turned my stomach with regard to consuming meat. I could link if you want. I did find Halal meat at the supermarket, which requires more humane methods of slaughter, kosher does too. But that doesn’t say anything about living conditions prior to slaughter.
I think about it from time to time, but I couldn’t impose vegetarianism on my little carnivore. As for me, pass the beans.
the legendary Musical Fruit of yore. good stuff.
you mean cows walk? I just thought they sort of grew in fields wherever you bury a jug of milk and are then sort of scooped up by big machines at harvest time, like big beef-filled watermelons.
